It is 2039 and I just arrived back from the Greek Island of Rhodes. I wanted to revisit Rhodes and compare how it has changed over the past twenty one years. I arranged the trip on the Internet within a few minutes. Internet nowadays is much quicker and there are more comparison sites to check out the best hotels and package holidays. I arrived in Rhodes in half the time of twenty one years ago. We used the shuttle airplane service, that is easily accessible to all nowadays. There is plenty of leg room available to stretch out your legs, nowadays kids and families have there own section on the plane so thankfully screaming children are a thing of the past as the soundproofing between each section is pretty good. The food on the shuttle bus airplane is mainly vegetarian these days due to the shortage of meat products throughout the world! I ate a appetising stuffed courgette with couscous and a roasted red pepper sauce. Crackers were an accomplemeny with soya cheese with chives. I had two glasses of dry white de-alcoholised white wine. It’s lovely, and very common nowadays. Drinking heavily is now frowned upon. Carbonated fizzy drink sare uncommon now too due to there high sugar levels and the government trying to control ongoing weight problems of the general population.

On arrival in Rhodes we were transported to our hotel with an electric self drive car. They are so much easier than the old gear and automatic cars and you can just back a relax.

During the holiday in Rhodes we visited Rhodes Town a couple of times. It is similar to my previous visit but some things have changed. No one carries cash anymore. All transactions are completed on the smart microphones. They are much smaller nowadays which is great, and if you want to watch something on them you can project the movie or program onto a flat surface like a wall. How awesome is that. Rhodes town is steeped in history which makes the place beautiful. There are many more people visiting here nowadays, and hotels have been build all over the place, which is disappointing as it takes away some of the charm of the place.

I recommend the small tavernas dotted on the outskirts of the town. They still hold there charm. Computeration has infiltrated even these idealic spots where robots are doing some of the manual jobs, such as dishwashing and taking orders but I miss human interaction. Small kindnesses between people. There is a small historic town house which is a lovely museum to visit.

I still enjoy lying beside the pool but due to ozone depletion, no one risks getting a suntan. Again computerization is everywhere and robots are working around the pool to take your order. Again, I miss having a laugh or chat to the locals.

I loved Rhodes, as much as the first time. Technology has speeded up the journey time to get to the destination which is great, but I wish robots were not as predominant as I miss human interactions like the old days.

Take care and stay in touch,
Myself
