I miss you already! I’m writing from my hotel in Venice as I watch the automatic gondolas go by. You know I always wanted to see the city of water, and here I am at last. The flight to Rome was so short since they started using those new jets! It only took three hours from New York City. I took a driverless car from the airport, and then I caught a water bus in Venice. I’m staying on a little island right across from the main part of Venice, so I feel like less of a tourist. Venice has so many tourists! Luckily I haven’t interacted much with them. I haven’t seen many locals, either. When I arrived, I had my registration all ready, and the kiosk checked me into my room. The keycode it gave me even opened the mini bar! I shall be eating dinner soon. The AI at the front desk will bring me something. Then I will need to rest, for tomorrow, I will see the Piazza San Marco and the Bridge of Sighs! I hear that there is an excellent museum near the main square that I would like to visit as well. Word has it they have automated tour guides that make the whole process much simpler.
I know it’s old fashioned to write a letter like this when I could see a holographic image of you right in front of me, but I know you’re at work right now because of the time change, and there’s something about being in Venice that just makes me feel romantic. I remember when I was a little girl in the late 80s, how big and boxy the telephones were, and how much they charged for long distance calls. Things are so different now. Easier, in many ways, but I miss the old-fashioned way sometimes. I wish you were here with me, Jack. The flight was so delightful. I’d highly recommend Virgin Atlantic for the next time you travel. And the car! It was the newest Tesla, so quiet you could barely hear it. I think I’ll rent one of those next time I travel. The Italian countryside was so beautiful, especially since the last of the phone lines have been removed in that part of the world.
While I was on the plane, I watched a virtual reality film. It was a romance about two young people, just like we used to be. The new virtual reality system on the plane felt so real, I could swear I could reach out and touch the actors right in front of me. I think we’ll have to get one of those when I return next month. They even come with a three sensory pack: sight, sound, and smell. I suppose the smell could be a good or a bad thing, but I’d like to try it out. It was available on the plane, but I decided to save that experience for another time.
Wish you were here with me. Send all my love to the children.
Kisses,
Jenna
