We have just returned from our trip to Bora Bora. We had seen beautiful photos of its unspoilt reefs and the opportunity to see its sea life up close. The warm weather was also attractive. And the opportunity to have a private sea plane transfer was too good to pass up. Let me tell you all about it.

The day we left, a small vehicle came and collected us from our home. The private transfer took us straight to the run way, where our bags were put on the plane. While we were in the vehicle, we were able to check in, print our boarding passes, check in our luggage and prepare for the flight. We boarded our plane hassle free and without having to encounter any staff.

We flew directly to the US, where a small private transfer plane was waiting to collect us and take us directly to the island. Our luggage was effortlessly transferred to the smaller plane without us having to handle it.

When we arrived on the island, the hotel staff took our luggage straight from the plane to our room. At the reception, we were able to check ourselves in on the computer and our keys were waiting for us. A driverless cart was waiting to take us to our room. This cart was available on call whenever we needed it for the week we were there.

We were also able to select a variety of activities while we were there through a virtual screen in our room. We went swimming with dolphins and snorkelling every day. The holiday was all inclusive so we managed to take advantage of many delicious cocktails on the menu and we ate fresh fish every day. I wish we had had time to do the activity where you go fishing and catch your own fish for dinner. Our neighbours did it and said it was fantastic.

On the way back, we had much the same sort of effortless journey. We got our driverless cart to the plane terminal, where a sea plane was waiting for us. The hotel staff put our luggage on the plane. The small private transfer flight took us back to the mainland, were we had a larger, commercial flight waiting for us. We got straight on this flight and flew directly home. The best part was having our private transfer ready and waiting when we disembarked the plane so we were able to go straight home and deal with our jetlag there.

A few years ago it would be unheard of to board a plane straight from your home with no delays or queues. We used to have to arrive 3 hours ahead of flight and wait in a grotty airport with thousands of other miserable people who were all fed up waiting. The introduction of personal collection cars has made such a difference and the journey is much more enjoyable now. It’s also amazing how fast flight times are now. It used to take over 24 hours to get to Bora Bora, now our flight time was under 8 hours. We watched a film and when got tired, we simply drew the curtain around our private space, reclined the seat so it was flat and fell asleep. Light meals were freshly prepared and on demand and air hostesses didn’t interrupt us unless we called them. When we called them they arrived in less than 2 minutes (they used to sit gossiping at the back of the plane for an hour or so in the old style planes).

I would recommend it.
